June 4, 1944 Operation Overlord

“Operation Overlord” was the codename for the Battle of Normandy, the Allied operation that launched the successful invasion of German-occupied Western Europe during World War II. The operation was launched on 6 June 1944 with the Normandy landings. Wikipediaā€¯.

This date has a deep emotional significant meaning for me as my Father was one of the soldiers who landed on Normandy Beach in the first wave. A Captain at the time, he was able to avoid serious injury and lead his Company (I) into occupied France, until a serious wound ended his deployment in which he was hospitalized back in England for over 13 months. He was also awarded a Bronze Star Metal, the Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Metal before his retirement with over 27 years from the US Army, Medical Corp. as a Lt. Colonel.

I encourage everyone, especially those of you are now home-schooling, to take the time to look back into our history of those events of Operation Overlord. Without the determination of those in The Greatest Generation, we may not be able to enjoy the benefits of self-determination and self-employment which brings us to The Chapel Hill Leads Group.

I look forward to the time that we can gather again, face to face. Until then please connect with us, as our co-host Sharon Hill leads our group into our ZOOM meeting this Wednesday morning.
